We hope that the Bodega Bay community is aware that BBCERT is equipped with a disaster response trailer containing cots, blankets and other supplies needed to set up a temporary emergency shelter. Effective operation of a shelter requires training, and we have been working with Red Cross volunteers and staff to improve our skills.
We are very pleased that we can now offer a training opportunity to all community members on Saturday, May 20, 2023. There is also a mandatory one-hour Zoom class which will be held on Friday, May 19 at 4:00 PM. Sheltering Fundamentals is a basic level course that introduces the roles and responsibilities for opening up, operating and closing a shelter during a disaster. The course focuses on what new shelter workers need to know to work in a shelter. Topics will include: Supplies and Equipment, Standards for Shelter Layout and Functions, How to Conduct Registration, Assessing Client Basic Needs, and Using Additional Resources to Support Client Needs.
In an actual disaster, we will need MANY trained volunteers -- so please take advantage of this opportunity!

Please note, this shelter training is something entirely different from “basic CERT training.” You do NOT need to have completed CERT training in order to participate in "Sheltering Fundamentals."
